Cecilia Edwards

CeciliaCecilia's roots are in a large, close-knit, musical Newfoundland family. She has been writing stories, poetry and songs for almost three decades. She enjoys performing her popular and original songs for various worthy causes and special occasions such as Folk Festivals, weddings, reunions, public appearances and televised fundraising events.

Her music and songs have been used for many functions and her work has been published and praised both locally and nationally in the press and media. In 1996, she released her first recording YESTERDAY IS MINE AGAIN, which has been aired on both sides of the Atlantic and is still getting airplay today.

A Lullaby Prayer has become a popular Christmas song for School and Church choirs. Her beautiful rendition of the old traditional verse Mother is another radio favourite. Down Memory Lane was included on the Fortune Come Home Year Tape and both My Wedding Wish (Today) and Love Joins are regulars at weddings and anniversary celebrations.

She has also written many theme and special tribute songs and stories for and about both common and noteworthy people and events. Her writings focus on many local and universal causes such as Education and the Environment, Nature, Children's and Senior's issues, World Peace, Special Needs People, Abuse Victims, Folk Heroes, Simple Living, Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador, History and Heritage. Believing that good people should get recognized and encouraged, Cecilia does promotional work, biographies, profiles, personal tributes and photography to support her fellow artists through the media, the press, through networking with other industry people and on the Internet.

Musically, she has done studio work, writing and back-up vocals for various other singers over the years. She has taught private music lessons and served as Church Choir Leader on a voluntary basis. With two University degrees in English and Special Education, Cecilia is a very active member of the Music Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Songwriter's Association of Canada, SOCAN and various other Writing Associations.

It was her concern for the environment which prompted her to begin the Tree Twins series for children, which includes stories, stickers, reminder-labels, rhymes and activities. The series is designed to help children learn to enjoy and appreciate the natural beauty of Earth.

Her plans for a second album are currently on hold until she completes her Masters Degree in Guidance and Psychology. As a full-time student, with a teenage son and household chores, her schedule is too busy to attempt anything else these days. She will not give up the dream of a second album, however, because music is very important to her.

" Music and the Arts have always been a big part of who I am personally and professionally. Both an enjoyable past-time and a great passion, it is what brings us ordinary people to the highest heights of creativity and glory; and down to the simplest truths of our common humanity. It is what makes us better human beings! "
