'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. - John 15:13 (KJV)
Those who died in World Wars I & II, the Korean War and other conflicts laid down their lives for their friends, family, country and strangers. Jesus died to pay the price for our sins; the soldiers died to free us from tyranny. Never forget that each and every one who fought for us is a hero in his or her own way.
Remembrance Day is a day when everyone remembers those who fought and are still fighting for peace, freedom and harmony throughout the world.
No matter where we are, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we should all observe a two-minute silence. In Canada, the United States (where it is called Veteran's Day) and in the European countries which were liberated, people will remember and honour the brave men and women who fought for peace and freedom. We should also honour those who are continuing this tradition by participating in current battles and peacekeeping activities.
On November 11th Canadians all across the country will stop and pay tribute to the men and women killed in Canada's wars. You didn't think Canada had wars? While it's true that there were no great wars fought on Canadian soil (although there were some feisty rebellions and uprisings), many Canadians, along with those from other democratic countries, did take part in wars in foreign lands. They fought for liberation from the tyranny and slavery imposed by dictators; to ensure peace and freedom for future generations; not just for Canadians and North Americans but for all people everywhere.
