My Very Interesting (?) Biography
I was born in the tiny community of Anderson's Cove and grew up in Fortune. Except for a brief period in Toronto (1966-67) I have lived in Newfoundland all my life and have no desire to live elsewhere. I enjoy the changing seasons, the fresh air and the abundance of unpolluted water. Living in a small community, I am thankful for the freedom of being able to walk anywhere, at any hour of the day or night, without fear.
Professionally, I am a Librarian but I am a romantic dreamer by nature, with a passion for writing and history. My hobbies and interests include reading, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, crocheting and other crafts, listening to music, gardening and walking. Of course, I need a new hobby about as much as I need a hole in the head but, nevertheless, I recently developed an interest in building websites and am enjoying it tremendously.
I am a self-reliant, independent baby boomer who loves spending time at a small, secluded country cabin during the summer, with no modern conveniences or technology. I am a Jill of all Trades and Master of None.
My greatest source of pride is my two sons: Chris - Manager of Business Continuance, and Nick - a carpenter/mechanic/welder tradesman; and my daughter-in-law, Valerie. My greatest joy, however, is my beautiful grandchildren: Faith, twins Kyle and Courtney, Kelsey and Sophia.
From what I have learned so far, my roots are predominantly English. My ancestors include (1) one who came from Shepton Mallet (Somerset, England) sometime prior to 1820, during the time when labourers and factory workers were rioting periodically against factory modernization; (2) another English immigrant who apparently was the first settler of one of Newfoundland's now-deserted coastal communities; and (3) one, born in Newfoundland, who was murdered by a foster son.
Other than that, the only thing you need to know is that I look like, and am built like, a Barbie doll! Don't believe me? Sigh!!! Neither do I, but I happen to believe that personality is much more important than looks anyway.
