CAP Conference Presentation

	The very first annual CAP conference for Newfoundland & Labrador, was held at the Holiday Inn, St. John's, November 25-27. Prior to the conference, all CAP sites were invited to submit their sites for '7 Minutes of Fame'. I jumped at the chance - without fully realizing what I was letting myself in for! It meant doing a 7-minute presentation at the conference, highlighting something about my CAP site, which is also the public libary.
Since people don't generally rush to volunteer for such things, I was chosen as one of the presenters. Well, I'd gotten myself into it and now I had to follow through. I decided to focus on my computer training classes, to let others know that you don't have to be an expert to teach others the basics. Stefan, my Program Officer, agreed with my decision. I had just over a week to put it all together.
	I did my presentation - complete with a PowerPoint slide show - for about 200 people. I had never done a slide show before and I was not used to speaking to large gatherings - and I was the first one up!! Apparently, I had everyone's attention for I got some good comments afterwards and a number of people were interested in the training manual I had developed. Several people said that I had inspired them to try similar programs - just what Stefan and I had been hoping for.
Each of the presenters in the '7 Minutes of Fame' was given a token of appreciation for their participation. I had just accepted my gift and was headed back to my table.
