A Memorial Tribute
DEDICATION
To Deanna, a special, brave young lady,
and Stephanie, her best friend.
Deanna Thornhill was a bright young lady with a normal life at home, school and in other activities — until 1995. The constant pain she began experiencing in her leg was diagnosed
as cancer. Her young life then became a nightmarish round of surgery, treatment, hospitals
and doctor appointments with healthy periods of varying lengths in between. During these
good times she attended school and spent time with her family and friends like any normal teenager. Through it all, her courage was remarkable. However, the dreadful cancer cells
kept appearing in different places, demanding further treatments, until finally the doctors
came to the sad conclusion that they could do no more for her medically. The end came
with quiet dignity befitting such a courageous young lady, on Saturday, March 11, 2000.
Stephanie Pierce was Deanna's best friend. A remarkable young lady herself, she stuck by Deanna right to the end, providing emotional support and a shoulder to lean on when needed.
Their friendship was unconditional, based on a mutual affection and respect for each other
and the common interests they shared. It was a deep, lasting relationship that accepted,
faced and overcame any obstacles that popped up; and was strengthened by adversity.
Sadly, Deanna is no longer with us but Stephanie will always have the beautiful memories
of their time together. Deanna will always be with her in memory and in her heart.
